Weekend Docket: 7/1/11

AWESOME Cupcake from sweetology101.blogspot.com
Let's face it.  It's the 4th of July.  The only things you should be doing this weekend are Drinking, Eating, Beaching... and scouring the city for the slowly disappearing "free Fireworks" shows.  And thanks to the industry emailing tree, which proves to our company that Hollywood shuts down at lunchtime, I'm finding myself with a lovely Summer Friday, and little desire to search for events & make lists / flowcharts when two of my favorite bloggers have already compiled all the fun events going on this weekend already.

So... for all your Firework scouting needs, Michael of South Bay Foodies has pulled together a list of the Beach Cities who kept a little cushion in their budgets for some explosion power to drive tourism!

AND for the Alcoholics, because I know that's what you're all really interested in, the lovely V & K of Finer Things LA have a nice little drinkin menu for all your boozein needs.

As for me, I'll be cooking up a storm for Cloak & Dinner, all whilst crashing house parties & maybe even throwing an impromptu beer pong / bbq on the 4th... (if you *cough cough David Kwong** would like to bring over your magic ribs & anyone else, if you show up with a six pack & a bathing suit, I won't turn you away)

All Weekend
Anime Expo
Friday July 1 to Monday July 4 || Fri-Sun, 8-6 | Mon, 9-2
You can't miss Kenshin Himura, the remorseful samurai with rebellious hair. Nor will Haruhi Suzumiya, the otherworldly high school girl in sailor tops, escape attention. They're in the parade of characters impersonated by rabid fans at this confab. The biggest American gathering of anime and manga geeks is crowned by a 3-D hologram concert from Hatsune Miku, who will deliver numbers that have made her computer-generated voice famous. It's the ultimate karaoke—even the singer's body is prerecorded! Los Angeles Convention Center http://www.anime-expo.org/

Cloak & Dinner: E Pluribus uNOM
6pm start
Good afternoon. In less than an week, dinner guests will join others from around Los Angeles. And you will be eating the most American meal in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We must be united in our common tastes. Perhaps it's fate that next week is the Fourth of July, and we will once again be eating for our freedom... Not for tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but hunger. We are eating and drinking for our right to live. To exist. And when we finish the meal, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to eat! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!" Reservations are gone, but to sign up for future dinners, please email rsvp@cloakanddinner.com or visit our website www.cloakanddinner.com
