Restro Review: Casa Cocina Y Cantina

Stop #2 on the Cheap Eats & Hot Bartender Pub Crawl unveiled perhaps my newest favorite Happy Hour of all time Downtown.  The sun was shining, the drinks were strong and the food was absolutely delicious!

Let's start with the drinks.  $15 pitchers of Sangria, $16 pitchers of Margaritas.  When they came out in carafes, I thought to myself, this doesn't seem like that great of a deal.  Still a deal, but we went through our first two pitchers in a heartbeat.  But that was before we tasted them.  They were the perfect blend of absolutely intoxicatingly alcoholic and blissfully heavenly.  Then they hit you like a brick wall...

Lucky for us, that was about the time that the chips & salsa arrived.  Salty, freshly fried chips with a sweet & spicy salsa worked in perfect harmony with the strong tequila infused into their margaritas.

Then we decided to order some food off their happy hour menu.  For $5, we tried their Dos Tacos al Pastor.  Two spit-roasted “crackling” pork tacos, tomatillo-avocado sauce, cilantro, minced onion, grilled pineapples and topped with applewood smoked bacon in housemade corn tortillas.  Now you know I'm a lover of bacon, so this absolutely hit the spot!

But the real gem were the Nacho Madre's Nachos for $12.  Three tiers of nachos, fully loaded with melted cheese, black beans, crema, pico de gallo, pickled jalapenos and guacamole with barbacoa braised beef.  It came in a beautiful stack which they cut up table side.  Sadly I was a little too slow with the camera (probably from those damn Margarita's) so I was only able to get an "after" picture.  The braised beef was succulent and juicy, and melded perfectly with the mish-mash of Mexican flavors.

I was already way too full from my tacos & chips & salsa to fully enjoy these, which means I'm ready for a 2nd trip!
